Personal Development Planning
Personal development planning is at the center of any effective leadership development program. A personal development plan maps out a unique strategy for each participant and is important because people cannot improve on a “laundry list” of development areas. When faced with too many changes at once, they can quickly become dispirited and lose momentum. An personal development plan mitigates this problem and can mean the difference between a short term fix and genuine behavioural change.
Every participant in a Kwela leadership program works closely with a coach to create a personal development plan. Our coaches support and advise as they help participants to:
- Review and interpret feedback from 360-degree and other assessments.
- Identify a focused set of development goals to target in the program.
- Transform goals into actionable steps that are realistic, measurable and timed.
- Communicate the plan and seek feedback from important stakeholders.
- Monitor and measure progress and make adjustments as the program unfolds.
People learn best when they are in control and personal development planning is central to ensuring that growth is ultimately self-directed.
Once in place the personal development plan is typically executed in conjunction with a Personal Coach and may also identify a mix of skills Training required to achieve specific goals.
